Scrap metal has become big business in recent years and its not uncommon to see vans touring the area loaded with scrap.

Whilst this might be convenient if you're trying to get rid of an old cooker, its not quite so good when the scrap collectors help themselves to items of value in your garden or driveway.

Today North Wales Police are warning residents to be on their guard for unscrupulous individuals who won't think twice about loading up your possesions and taking them away.

"Scrap collectors are supposed to be licensed by the Local Authority and to complete a register of all items collected. However we know that many of them aren't licensed and that they travel from many miles away to operate in North Wales.

"Think like a criminal...look at your home from the road outside, is there anything likely to attract unscrupulous scrap collectors?

"If there is then move it elsewhere or make sure that it is secured and can't be moved."
