A UK-wide research programme aimed at improving care for people suffering from heartburn, indigestion and acid reflux has been launched in Wales, with eligible adults now being invited to take part.
The initiative, known as Heartburn Health, is a national research programme and bioresource designed to improve understanding of common upper digestive symptoms and how they develop over time. Researchers hope the findings will help shape future care and identify new opportunities for treatment and prevention.
In Wales, the programme is being supported by Health and Care Research Wales, NHS Wales and Cancer Research UK.
Adults experiencing regular symptoms are being encouraged to take part. Eligibility includes men aged between 55 and 79 and women aged between 65 and 79 who suffer from frequent heartburn, acid reflux or indigestion, or who take medication to manage these conditions.
Participation involves completing a short online form about personal health experiences. The information gathered will be used to help researchers better understand how these symptoms affect people over time.
People across Wales may receive a text message from NHS Wales containing a secure link to sign up. Alternatively, eligible individuals can enrol directly through the programme’s website.
Those who do not wish to be contacted about the study can opt out via Digital Health and Care Wales by completing an online form or by calling 0808 281 4772, where a member of the team can assist.
Further information about the programme and how to take part is available at the Heartburn Health website.
