Work to remove Rhyl flood defence compound begins

Work is due to begin later this month to remove the temporary compound used during the coastal protection scheme at Marine Drive in Rhyl.

The work is scheduled to start on Monday 26 October and is expected to be completed by Friday 13 November, weather permitting and subject to there being no unforeseen problems.

The compound was established to support the coastal flood defence works, but Denbighshire County Council now plans to return the site to its previous condition so it can once again be used for public recreation.

The work will include clearing the site and removing the existing hardstanding using a road planer. Road planings and existing sub-soil will then be used to reinstate the area.

The temporary vehicle access from Marine Drive will also be removed and the footway reinstated.

Hoarding and fencing will remain in place temporarily while the work is carried out to keep the site secure.

Once the work is complete, the area will be reopened for public recreational use.

Councillor James Elson, Denbighshire's Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said the council was pleased to be able to return the compound to its previous condition and recognised that local residents had been keen to see the area reopened.

The council says it will aim to complete the work as quickly as possible and minimise disruption in the surrounding area.
