Young people take photos to save green spaces

A national charity organisation with strong links to projects in Conwy has revealed a special project to get young people engaging with environmental projects promoting positive mental health and wellbeing.

Groundwork Youth, which is affiliated to Groundwork Gogledd Cymru, is asking young people under the age of 24 to share a photo on social media of their park and why it’s so important to them – and to be in with a chance of winning a professional photography course.

Young people are the second largest group of parks users after families with small children.

The competition to celebrate Love Parks Week, is being run alongside Groundwork’s 'Youth Advisory Board'  and runs until Friday 9th August with 10 of the best entries winning a place on a local professional photography course.

The winning entries will also be showcased at a series of Groundwork community events across the UK before being featured during the Labour and Conservative party conferences later this year,  where the YAB will raise their concerns for the future of our parks and green spaces directly with MPs.

Participants are being invited to capture shots of the spaces which matter the most to young people - from the nature young people wish to see protected, to a new bike lane you’d like to see adding or a field your little brother enjoys playing on and you want to ensure it stays safe.

Most importantly young people will be asked to caption their photographs with impassioned reasons why their chosen space is important to them and their communities; what they wish to preserve in their park or what they would like to see added in the future.
