The new field hospital which has been set up at Venue Cymru to respond to cases of Coronavirus in the region has been named.

Ysbyty'r Enfys - translated into English means Rainbow Hospital after the symbolic nature of hope and solidarity that North Wales communities are holding onto.

The rainbow is seen to be an optimistic symbol which school children and communities have been including on posters and drawings in schools and at home and on placards supporting our heroes working in the NHS.

The news was broken earlier today on Twitter by local MP David Jones.

Iwan Davies, Chief Executive of Conwy County Borough Council said: “We’re proud to be supporting our colleagues in BCUHB at this very challenging time.  Giving the temporary hospital a name may seem like a small action but it’s important to give the facility a clear identity suitable for its new use.

Local ministers and assembly members greeted the news positively and following on from the announcement last week that Venue Cymru was one of three temporary hospitals across the North Wales coast. Local people have been supportive of everyone working hard to get the building ready.

Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar said: “Venue Cymru is a great site, being of good size and easily accessible for residents in both Conwy and Denbighshire.  I very much thank the Health Board and their staff for all their efforts in these taxing times."

However Darren also sounded a word of caution over the number of beds available in the three temporary hospitals. He has now asked that Welsh Government provide reassurances that enough capacity is delivered in an area with a high number of older residents.
