Drivers are being warned of significant delays on the A55 eastbound in Colwyn Bay following a crash believed to have involved two coaches.

The collision happened between junction 21 at Colwyn Bay and junction 22 at Old Colwyn.

Traffic Wales initially reported a lane one closure, with heavy congestion building in the area. A second lane was later closed because of the ongoing incident, with the restriction affecting traffic around the Penmaenbach headland and Conwy Tunnel.

Witnesses on social media reported that the crash involved two coaches, with one apparently hitting the back of the other.

Passengers were said to have remained on both coaches following the collision.

Police attended the scene, with officers reported to have closed a lane and controlled traffic. Police motorcycles and a patrol car were also seen heading towards the incident.

Traffic has been moving very slowly, with long delays and average speeds falling to between 10 and 15mph.

Drivers heading east through Colwyn Bay and towards Conwy are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and expect congestion in the area.
