Abergele & Pensarn gains evening Manchester Airport stop

A new direct evening rail stop between Manchester Airport and Abergele & Pensarn is being introduced on a trial basis following concerns raised about reduced connectivity in recent timetable changes.

The adjustment has been made by Transport for Wales (TfW) after residents and passengers raised concerns that recent timetable revisions had weakened direct links between Abergele & Pensarn and Manchester Airport. The change follows discussions with stakeholders earlier this month and aims to improve late-evening travel options for people using the station.

The service forms part of an existing 18:25 departure from Manchester Airport, which will now call additionally at Abergele & Pensarn before continuing its journey to Holyhead on weekdays and to Llandudno on Saturdays.

The trial is intended to improve access for passengers travelling for work, leisure and international flights, with TfW saying it will closely monitor passenger numbers and feedback before deciding whether to make the stop a permanent feature of future timetables.

The move comes after concerns were raised that previous timetable changes had reduced convenience for local travellers needing direct access to Manchester Airport, prompting calls for improved rail connections along the North Wales coast.

Darren Millar welcomed the decision and said he was pleased that concerns from local residents had been listened to.

He said: “I am delighted that Transport for Wales has listened to the concerns raised by local residents and agreed to introduce this additional service for Abergele & Pensarn.”

Transport for Wales has confirmed the service will remain under review throughout the trial period, with passenger demand and feedback central to any future decision on whether the stop becomes permanent.
