Conwy county residents are being offered half price tickets to ride one of Llandudno’s best-loved heritage attractions, the Great Orme Tramway, next weekend.

The Great Orme Tramway is holding its annual Community Weekend on Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October, offering the exclusive discount for local residents.

Visitors come from all over the world to visit the Great Orme Tramway. It is the UK’s only cable-hauled tramway running on a public road, and one of just three left in the world.

Locals can make the same journey that residents and tourists have taken since the Great Orme Tramway opened in 1902. Over the years, the Tramway has hauled coffins, provided war time transport, and carried the town band in full flow up to the summit.

At the summit, there are stunning views from Llandudno all the way to Eryri. While on the Great Orme, passengers can enjoy walking trails, the Summit Complex, the Great Orme Copper Mines and the Visitor Centre with interactive exhibits and information about the diverse wildlife and history of the Great Orme.

Luke, the Tramway Manager, said: “We’re excited to be holding our fourth Community Weekend. We’re looking forward to welcoming locals who haven’t visited in a while and encouraging people who haven’t had the chance to visit to come along for the first time.”

“Living in Conwy, it can be easy to take the views and attractions for granted. We hope that local residents take this opportunity to experience a unique historical attraction in our own back yard.”

Return tickets on Community Weekend will be £4.88 for adults and £3.45 for children aged 3 to 16. Children under three travel free and well-behaved dogs get their own ticket for £1.15 return.

Residents will need to bring proof of their address in Conwy County to be eligible for the offer.

The Tramway is open from 10am until 6pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday. The last tram from the summit will depart at 5:40 on Saturday and 4:40 on Sunday.
