Patients and staff at the Dialysis Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd enjoyed a special surprise recently when the Welsh Cup trophy was brought in by Caernarfon Town FC chairman Paul Evans.
The visit came just weeks after Caernarfon Town made history by lifting the Welsh Cup for the first time in April 2026, one of the greatest achievements in the club’s history.
Paul, who is a dialysis patient at the hospital, wanted to share the club’s success with the staff and fellow patients who have supported him throughout his treatment journey.
The trophy proved a popular attraction, with patients and staff given the opportunity to see it up close, take photographs and celebrate the club’s remarkable achievement.
Among those enjoying the visit was Ceri Williams, who receives home haemodialysis treatment with the support of her mother and carer, Joyce Holden-Carer. A devoted Caernarfon Town supporter, Joyce has followed the club for many years, while Ceri is hoping to attend a match later this year.
Paul said winning the Welsh Cup had been an incredibly proud moment for everyone connected with the club.
“Winning the Welsh Cup was an incredibly proud moment for everyone connected with Caernarfon Town Football Club, and I wanted to bring the trophy to the Dialysis Unit to share that success with the people who have supported me over the years,” he said.
“The staff there do an amazing job and have always looked after me with kindness, professionalism and compassion. I am extremely grateful for everything they do, not just for me but for all the patients they care for every day.
“It was a pleasure to bring the cup in and see the smiles it put on people’s faces.”
Sarah Hirst-Williams, Matron for the Dialysis Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd, said staff were delighted to welcome Paul and the trophy.
“It was wonderful to welcome Paul back to the unit and we are very grateful that he took the time to bring the Welsh Cup trophy along for staff and patients to see,” she said.
“We are incredibly proud of Paul and the club’s success.
“We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with the club in the future and appreciate their support for our patients and staff.”
The visit brought a welcome lift to the unit, giving patients and staff the chance to share in a historic sporting success while celebrating the strong connection between the hospital and one of North Wales’ most successful football clubs.
