Children's hospice is star of new Eryri version of Monopoly

Tŷ Gobaith, our children's hospice in Conwy has today been revealed as the first star of its very own space in the Eryri (Snowdonia) version of Monopoly.

Last August, it was announced that Eryri would be getting a brand new version of the world’s most popular family board game.

The game is being made by Winning Moves UK, an official MONOPOLY producer, under license from Hasbro, a leading toy and game company.

At the time, the public was invited to send in general suggestions for local landmarks — such as Yr Wydffa and Portmeirion Village — to feature in the game. Later, a search for a charity to feature in the game went out.

“A huge congratulations to everyone at Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices and a very warm welcome onto the brand new official MONOPOLY: Eryri Edition board,” says Yasmin East, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK.

“The identities of all the other spaces, the tokens and customised cards, will be revealed when the game hits shops next month.”

Andy Everley, Conwy area fundraiser for Tŷ Gobaith and Hope House Children's Hospices, said: "We are thrilled to have been chosen to be part of the esteemed Monopoly game, recognized globally.

“Being highlighted in the Eryri edition, particularly as a Community Chest space, is a great privilege for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospices, and having our own space is something we deeply appreciate and will cherish.

“We are immensely thankful to the community for its support and votes."

In all, 30+ Eryri landmarks and favourites are being showcased on the board, replacing the likes of ‘Mayfair’ and ‘Park Lane’ from the classic MONOPOLY original.

The tokens – like the Scottie dog and boot – are literally getting the boot and being replaced with customised Eryri themed ones. The Chance and Community Chest cards are being customised as well.

Over the last 30 years, Winning Moves UK has produced official versions of MONOPOLY all over the world, from Palm Springs to Phuket and Dubai to Dublin.

Now the dice are landing in North Wales. The MONOPOLY: Eryri Edition game will hit the shops next month.
