Volunteer Coastguard rescue officers were called into action on Saturday evening after concerns were raised for the welfare of a vulnerable person on the Little Orme.

Members of the Llandudno Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to search the area and successfully located the individual before carrying out a welfare check and ensuring they were safely passed into the care of the appropriate support services.

In a brief statement following the incident, the team said: “We were called out this evening to search for a vulnerable person on the Little Orme. We were able to find the person and check on his welfare before passing him to the next stage of care.”

The callout is a reminder that coastguard teams are involved in far more than maritime emergencies. Alongside responding to incidents involving people in difficulty in the sea, mud, cliffs and coastal waters, volunteer rescue officers are frequently tasked to assist in searches for missing or vulnerable people along North Wales’ coastline.

The Little Orme, with its rugged cliffs, steep paths and remote areas, can present significant challenges for emergency responders, particularly during the evening or in poor weather conditions. The local coastguard team regularly trains to deal with a wide range of incidents, including cliff rescues, missing persons, searches, medical emergencies and assisting other emergency services.

Llandudno Coastguard Rescue Team is made up entirely of volunteers who are on call around the clock, 365 days a year. Team members often leave family gatherings, work commitments and social events at short notice to respond when members of the public need help.

Their operational area covers much of the North Wales coastline, including Llandudno, Penrhyn Bay, the Great Orme, Little Orme and surrounding coastal locations. Working alongside the RNLI, North Wales Police, Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, they play a vital role in protecting lives along the coast.

The team is urging people to remember that if they see anyone in danger or distress around the coast, beaches, cliffs or shoreline, they should dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.

Early intervention can often make a crucial difference and help emergency services reach those in need as quickly as possible.
