Council criticised for "not doing its homework" on Rhos kiosks

Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has criticised Conwy County Council for "failing to do its homework" on plans to rebuild kiosks on Rhos promenade.

It was recently revealed that plans to discuss the new seaside kiosks were deferred for discussion at the council's next planning committee meeting after concerns that the new structures would fail to withstand bad weather.

Commenting, Mr. Millar, who when the original kiosks were demolished backed a campaign calling for popular seaside kiosks along the promenade to be safeguarded, said:

"The local authority ought to have done its homework over the past 2 years to ensure that these kiosks could be reinstated.

"The previous kiosks were insitu for decades and there are kiosks on coasts around the UK, so it is beyond belief that there are excuses about the ability of the new buildings to withstand storms.

"Conwy must get on and resolve these issues urgently so that the promise to reinstate the kiosks can be fulfilled."

In response, the council reiterated that the matter on the robustness of the kiosks will be now re-visited in light of new information which has been received and a holding objection from Welsh Water due to the proximity of the sewer.

However, discussions are on-going with Welsh Water concerning this issue and will be discussed during the next planning committee meeting.
