Council replaces Old Highway lamps to help local wildlife

Conwy County Borough Council is replacing 22 streetlight lamps along the Old Highway, Colwyn Bay with warm amber LED lamps - to benefit the local woodland wildlife.

This includes the local population of Lesser Horseshoe Bats, a European protected species, which roost and feed in the area.

The new orange-coloured lamps meet road lighting design safety standards while reducing light pollution which affects the bats, birds, moths and other nocturnal wildlife.

The replacement lamps and installation costs are 100% funded by Welsh Government's Local Places for Nature fund.

In a bid to ensure that the removed lamps are re-used rather than be scrapped, these will now be reused in other street lighting across the county.
