An HGV driver has received an interim disqualification after being charged with drink driving after he was stopped on the A55 on Friday night.
The 51-year-old was arrested following 999 calls being made by members of the public who were reporting that an HGV was weaving across the A55 whilst travelling eastbound from the direction of Holyhead on Anglesey.
Officers caught up with the HGV by the Britannia Bridge and he was stopped at around 8pm.
The driver, who is from the King’s Lynn area of Norfolk was arrested after failing the roadside breath test and was taken to custody where a further sample of breath was taken.
He was charged with drink driving after providing a reading of 123 (the legal limit is 35) and was remanded for court the following morning.
He appeared before Mold Magistrates Court yesterday where he received an interim disqualification and has been given strict bail conditions. His next court appearance will be before Caernarfon Magistrates on November 11th.
PC Kieran Davies of the Roads Crime Unit said: “We’d like to thank members of the public for calling the police.
“Drink driving risks the lives of all road users – but to be driving an HGV whilst over three times the legal limit is incomprehensible.”
Anybody with information regarding someone they believe to be driving whilst under the influence are urged to contact North Wales Police via the website or via 101. In an emergency always dial 999.
