Full steam ahead for a magical Christmas journey!

October 13, 2025 - 192 views

The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are all set to steam into Christmas this December with a calendar of festive activities that promises magical memories for the whole family.

Visitors can look forward to meeting Santa himself as he takes time out of his busy schedule to join the railway’s ever-popular Santa Trains, as well as greeting families in the enchanting Christmas Carriage Grotto at Porthmadog Harbour Station.

The highlight of the season is the Welsh Highland Railway Santa Train. Departing from Caernarfon Station, the journey takes passengers through the stunning scenery of Snowdonia National Park.

Along the way Santa and his cheerful elves will appear on board with gifts for all the well-behaved children.

A pause at Rhyd Ddu Station provides the perfect opportunity for photographs before the train makes its return journey, where further surprises await.

Every ticket includes festive treats, with adults enjoying mulled wine, a mince pie and a Christmas cracker, while children receive a present from Santa alongside a drink, biscuit and cracker.

Even the youngest passengers are not forgotten, with babies receiving their own seasonal gift.

The Santa Trains have become a treasured tradition for families across the region, combining the wonder of heritage steam travel with the magic of Christmas.
