Road closures will be in place in St Asaph this week as the city prepares to welcome a Royal visit to St Asaph Cathedral for the traditional Maundy Thursday service.

Denbighshire County Council has confirmed that the entire length of High Street will be closed from 6am until 2pm on Thursday, April 2, to allow for the visit and ensure public safety.

The Maundy Thursday service is a significant date in the royal calendar, typically attended by members of the Royal Family, and is expected to draw visitors and well-wishers to the small North Wales city. The historic cathedral, one of the smallest in Britain, has hosted major events before and will once again be at the centre of national attention.

While the closure is in place, traffic will be diverted via Lower Denbigh Road (B5381) and Upper Denbigh Road (A525), with drivers being advised to avoid the area where possible and plan journeys in advance.

Despite the restrictions, pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the day, allowing residents and visitors to move through the city centre on foot.

Parking will also be affected in the lead-up to the event. Spaces along High Street and parts of Chester Street, near the junction with the A525, will be suspended from the evening of Wednesday, April 1. Drivers are being asked to ensure vehicles are moved in advance to avoid disruption.

The visit is expected to bring a boost of interest to St Asaph and the wider North Wales area, with increased footfall and attention on the region. However, with that comes temporary disruption, and residents are being urged to plan ahead as the city prepares for the high-profile occasion.
