A Colwyn Bay opticians has launched a series of initiatives to support its local community this December, including fundraising efforts for a young patient and sponsorship of the town’s Christmas market.
The team at Specsavers Colwyn Bay recently treated a young patient who was diagnosed with a brain tumour. In response, the store set up a GoFundMe page that has already raised more than £600 to support the patient and their family during this difficult time.
As part of their efforts, the store will also host a toy collection for the family, encouraging the local community to donate new toys and gifts to bring some festive cheer. Additionally, they will be donating £1 from every sight test carried out in December.
As part of its ongoing commitment to community support, the store is sponsoring Colwyn Bay’s Christmas market, which takes place at Stadiwm CSM on Sunday 8 December.
Organised by local business owner Sandra Bellew, the market will feature 75 stalls, a Christmas grotto, gift-wrapping demonstrations, raffles and mulled wine. Visitors can also enjoy live performances from steel drums duo Pantastic, solo artist Nansi Rose and Choirs for Good.
The event will raise funds for local initiatives, including Colwyn Bay Community Hwb and Foodbank, The Kind Bay Initiative, Tenovus Cancer Care and the Colwyn Bay Pier Project.
As part of its fundraising efforts, the store will also auction an original artwork donated by a patient who wanted to show appreciation for the eyecare she received. The artist, known for contributing pieces to organisations like the British Legion, gifted the painting to Specsavers Colwyn Bay to be used for charitable purposes. The auction will likely be held online via eBay, with proceeds going to charity.
Andrew Deeley, optician director, says: "At Specsavers Colwyn Bay, we are committed to giving back to the community that supports us. Whether through sponsorship, fundraising or collecting toys for families in need, we aim to make a positive impact during the festive season.
"The GoFundMe page we’ve set up for our young patient is already gaining traction and we encourage everyone to get involved, whether by donating, attending the Christmas market, or contributing to our toy collection."
To support the fundraiser, donate via the GoFundMe page. Visitors to the Christmas market can learn more about Specsavers Colwyn Bay’s involvement by stopping by their stall at the event.
