Plans to transform key Llanrwst site move forward

A major regeneration project aimed at boosting the future of Llanrwst is moving ahead, with local residents being invited to help shape the plans.

Conwy County Borough Council has secured funding from the Welsh Government through its Transforming Towns programme to redevelop the Plas yn Dre site — a location seen as central to the town’s future.

The site has been identified as a key strategic area with strong potential for commercial, retail or mixed-use development. With former buildings now removed, the space offers a blank canvas for new ideas that could help revitalise the town centre, attract new businesses and support economic growth in the area.

The project is being seen as an important step for Llanrwst, a historic market town in the Conwy Valley, as it looks to strengthen its high street and create new opportunities for both residents and visitors.

Council leaders are now keen to hear from the community before plans are finalised, with a series of consultation events taking place at Glasdir over the coming days. Residents can attend in person or join online sessions to share their views on how the site should be developed.

The feedback gathered will help shape the future of Plas yn Dre, ensuring the development reflects local needs while supporting long-term growth.

As towns across North Wales look to adapt and thrive, projects like this highlight the growing focus on reimagining town centres — creating spaces that work for modern communities while protecting the character that makes places like Llanrwst unique.
