Prestatyn residents invited to book for PCC public surgery

February 10, 2025 - 343 views

North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Andy Dunbobbin and North Wales Police are holding an advice surgery at the town library in King's Avenue for residents of Prestatyn and surrounding areas from 2-4pm on March 11th.

This event is part of the PCC’s mission to bring policing closer to the people of the region. The surgery will enable local people to discuss policing in their communities and to raise any concerns or comments they might have with the Commissioner and representatives from North Wales Police.

Andy Dunbobbin recently launched his new Police and Crime Plan for North Wales where he outlined his key priorities of ensuring a local neighbourhood policing presence; supporting victims, communities and businesses; and having a fair and effective criminal justice system.

The PCC wishes to be a visible and responsible Commissioner for the people of the region and to be available and approachable to residents. With this in mind, the Commissioner and officers will be happy to talk through matters affecting the public in their community.

Attendees will have 20 minutes to speak personally with the Commissioner, who will be accompanied by representatives from his office and North Wales Police, to provide the maximum possible assistance to the public.

The Commissioner, officers and staff will be able to provide further signposting if an issue can be more appropriately dealt with by other agencies and organisations. To ensure privacy, no other members of the public will be present during the meeting.

Andy Dunbobbin, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales commented: "I'm pleased to be engaging directly with the residents of Prestatyn and surrounding areas on issues that matter to them, alongside North Wales Police.

“My public surgeries are a chance for the community to voice their concerns and share their ideas. It's all about bringing policing closer to the people we serve. I'm looking forward to meeting with residents, hearing their perspectives, and working together to ensure North Wales remains a safe, vibrant and secure place to live. I encourage anyone who wants to, to book a place and to have their voice heard."

The Police and Crime Commissioner has four main duties, they are to set the priorities for policing in North Wales; to decide the budget for North Wales Police; to listen and respond to the public’s views on policing; and to hold the Chief Constable to account.

The PCC will be accompanied in Prestatyn by staff from his team and North Wales Police who will help to facilitate the meetings and take notes if needed.

Surgeries are by appointment only to ensure that the issues being raised relate to policing, crime or community safety, and to ensure the PCC is fully briefed on the issue prior to the meeting.

While the Commissioner is unable to intervene directly in operational matters, he welcomes residents’ feedback on how North Wales is policed.

The PCC will not be able to consider complaints about police officers, members of police staff, police community support officers or special constables as this has to go through the existing and established channels. Further advice on the complaints system is on the OPCC website here.
