Volunteer crews from RNLI in Llandudno were involved in a busy evening rescue operation after launching to multiple incidents along the resort’s coastline.
Llandudno RNLI launched its inshore lifeboat at 6.28pm on Bank Holiday Monday, following reports that two people had entered the water near Llandudno Pier and were believed to be drifting further out to sea.
With four volunteer crew members on board, the lifeboat made best speed to the area and immediately began carrying out search patterns around the pier and surrounding bay after initially finding nothing visible in the water.
While the search operation was underway, crews received further reports of six people cut off by the incoming tide on the old beach to the west of the pier. At the same time, a family of four was also reported to be in difficulty near Pigeon’s Cave.
The lifeboat temporarily diverted from the original search to assess both situations as the tide continued to rise rapidly.
RNLI volunteers assisted those involved away from danger and guided them to safety before they received further advice from HM Coastguard teams in Llandudno.
Following the shoreline incidents, the inshore lifeboat resumed its search for the two people reportedly seen in the water, working alongside HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 336.
After an extensive search of the area, no casualties were located and the operation was eventually stood down.
The lifeboat returned to station at 9.15pm after almost three hours on service.
The incident comes as RNLI crews continue to urge people visiting the coast during the warm weather to check tide times, stay aware of changing sea conditions and avoid becoming cut off by incoming tides.
The charity also reminds anyone in trouble at the coast to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
