The Idlewild Animal Sanctuary at Llandbedr-y-Cennin in the Conwy Valley will be closing at its current site due to financial constraints and challenges committing to a new lease following been given notice by their existing landlord.

Efforts are being made to secure a new home for the sanctuary, but it will not be possible before the current tenancy ends.

A spokesperson for the charity said that their immediate focus was now is on rehoming the animals and ensuring their well-being. They have called for support during this challenging time to help with the ongoing care of the animals.

A statement said: "This is incredibly difficult, but it is with great sadness that we inform you that Idlewild Animal Sanctuary will have to commence closing operations at its current site.

"As you will already be aware, our landlord served us notice and we have been working hard to secure a new home for the Sanctuary.

"Despite your generous donations and support, realistically we are not in a financial position to commit to a lease, or a purchase on an alternative site, before our tenancy ends.

"It’s been a painful and hard decision to make but, as always, our focus is on the well- being of our treasured animals. All our efforts are now on ensuring our animals are rehomed and continue to receive the love and care they deserve.

"We will find safe, loving homes for each and every one of them and we will not close down until we have achieved this. We will also ensure our volunteers have the care and support they deserve.

"We will need your support more than ever during this challenging period. It’s not going to be easy. All contributions will go to the ongoing care of our animals during this transition to their new homes. Every penny makes a difference. The whole Idlewild team thanks you from our hearts. We couldn’t have survived this far without you.

"We remain committed to animal welfare and sanctuary. We will be working hard to find another way to continue to pursue this necessary work in a difficult and challenging time. We owe you so much for your support: donations, volunteering, sharing our mission and, yes, visiting too."
