£10m to ramp up buses welcomed by Clwyd West MS

Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed news that funding has been announced to ramp up bus services across Wales.

With lockdown easing and more people using public transport, last week Mr. Millar called on the Welsh Government to work with bus operators to increase the number of services.

He is therefore delighted by this week’s news that the Welsh Government has earmarked an extra £10m to do this.

He said: “This is fantastic news for bus users who have been up in arms over the restricted services which have been operating recently.

“Buses have been flying past people at bus stops because they are full to capacity, leaving them high and dry.

“With the easing of lockdown and more people returning to work the demand for bus services is increasing, and as children and young people return to school and college in September and more parents return to the work place the demand will grow even further.

“Last week I urged the Welsh Government to provide operators with the funding they need to provide a reliable service across North Wales and I am pleased that Ministers are at last doing this and that bus users can look forward to a more reliable service in the not too distant future.”

The additional £10m of funding will enhance scheduled bus service levels through until the end of September, and Ministers have said they are also committed to maintaining the enhanced service levels beyond the end of this funding package.
