£165k salary offered in search for new Chief Constable

The search is on for a new Chief Constable for North Wales Police. The well-paid role has become available due to the retirement of Carl Foukes in October after 30 years in the police service.

The advertisement, which has gone live in the last few days, offers an annual salary of between £149,000 and £165,000 subject to skills and experience and negotiation on appointment. The role also attracts benefits and a relocation package for the right candidate.

Finding the right candidate who can meet the contrasting challenges of policing in communities with many different needs and priorities is one that Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin will be responsible for.

Mr. Dunbobbin said: “The four years since Carl became Chief Constable have seen many testing times for our whole country, not least during the pandemic, but he has faced these unprecedented challenges with commitment, dedication, and an unwaveringly positive outlook on life, and on the vital contribution that effective policing can make to society.

"He will leave behind a strong and focused team at North Wales Police – one that is fit for the future and for the challenges that lie ahead.

"I will now look to appoint a new Chief Constable over the coming months and put them forward to the Police and Crime Panel for confirmation."

The job advertisement reads as follows:

Police and Crime Commissioner, Andy Dunbobbin, is seeking to appoint a new Chief Constable for North Wales to help deliver the priorities of his Police and Crime Plan.

This is a great opportunity for an individual with the appropriate experience, ambition and
vision to lead North Wales Police, a person who is passionate about policing and who shares
the Commissioner's values for justice, policing and community safety.

The current chief constable Carl Foulkes QPM, has led the Force since 2018 and leaves the Force well placed for the challenges ahead.

The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- a strong commitment to serving the public and building the trust and confidence of the communities of North Wales
- a collaborative style of working
- the delivery of a policing service against a background of diminishing resources ability and dedication to deliver the policing priorities.

The appointment will be subject to a Confirmation Hearing of the Police and Crime Panel. Applicants will be required to meet the minimum eligibility criteria as outlined within the College of Policing Guidance for appointing Chief Officers.
