At the end of August three local men completed 50 holes of golf in twelve hours to celebrate their 50th Birthdays raising much needed funds for local palliative care charity St David’s Hospice.

Thanks to the combined birthday efforts of Adrian Owen, Chris Curry and Simon Neville, the charity received a welcome boost of over £2,000.

Adrian Owen, St David’s Hospice’s Conwy Community Fundraiser, along with his close friends Chris and Simon began at North Wales Golf Club at about 8am, then headed to the Great Orme Golf Course, Maesdu, Rhos-on-Sea and Old Colwyn, before returning to Rhos-on-Sea to play their 18th hole as their 50th and last of the day.

This challenge was long awaited, as it was postponed due to the pandemic, and an injury Adrian sustained last year.

The trio raised £2,043 for the Hospice. All money raised will contribute massively towards St David’s Hospice continuing to provide end-of-life care free of charge to the people of Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

Adrian thanked all their supporters for their kind donations. ‘’On behalf of Chris, Simon and myself, thank you to everyone who donated in support of our challenge and who visited us on the day at one of the courses.

‘’Thankfully we were blessed with fantastic weather and all five courses were in great condition were very welcoming and provided us with different challenges. We were pleased that we achieved at least one birdie each on the day!

‘’We were amazed by the generosity of everyone who got involved and that we were able to raise over £2000 for St David’s Hospice. Thank you!’’

Community fundraisers make up 90% of the 5 million annual running cost of St David’s Hospice, with just 9% of that figure coming from the Welsh Government and Local Health Board. Without the support of the community, the Hospice would not survive.
