Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar is calling on the Welsh Government to guarantee that North Wales will receive its fair share of additional beds and extra resources to meet the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic.

Darren is concerned that the number of extra beds in field hospitals in North Wales are proportionately much lower than those in places like Cardiff and Swansea and is calling on those in power in Wales to address this.

He said: “Last week it was announced that three field hospitals are to be opened in North Wales, at Llandudno’s Venue Cymru, Bangor University and Deeside Leisure Centre, with a joint total of 873 beds.

“However, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are providing a total of 2,060 extra beds and Swansea Bay University Health Board 1,489 additional beds

“Given the older population in many parts of North Wales, it is of great concern that the number of additional beds being provided here in substantially lower and I am therefore calling on the Welsh Government to address this discrepancy.

“People in North Wales need assurances that the region will be as well equipped as other parts of Wales to meet the challenges presented by the coronavirus pandemic in the weeks and months ahead."
