Amber storm warning for North Wales coast from early Friday

Storm Eunice is approaching North Wales in the early hours of Friday with updated warnings today showing that significant disruption and damage may occur particularly on higher ground and along the coast.

The Met Office has today increased the warning level to amber, meaning that heavy winds could impact on our Friday travel to work with fallen trees and structural damage to properties likely.

Police have said that today that people should consider working from home and should only attempt to travel unless it is essential.

In parts of South Wales, a red warning has been issued meaning there is an increased threat level, possibly to life.

The worst of the storm is expected from 0500 on Friday morning through into Friday evening at 2100.

The amber warning states:

- There is a good chance that flying debris could result in a danger to life
- Damage to buildings and homes is likely, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down
- Roads, bridges and railway lines are likely to close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights
- There is a good chance that power cuts, possibly prolonged, could occur , perhaps affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- Large waves are likely and beach material is likely to be thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties, and flooding of some coastal properties seems likely.
- It is likely there will be falling branches and some uprooted trees.
