Appeal for survivors of sexual crime to help improve support

June 18, 2022 - 1070 views

Are you a survivor of sexual abuse? Were you supported by the police or other rape and sexual assault support services? Do you think the processes or support given could be improved?

North Wales Police are looking for survivors of sexual abuse, of any gender, to volunteer to attend an online forum to give feedback on their experiences so the force, and other support organisations can improve the support given to survivors of sexual abuse.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We, along with partner agencies such as SARC, RASAC and Stepping Stones will be holding this forum online via Microsoft Teams to help us understand the problems faced by survivors and learn how we can help improve our services in the future. "

Detective Inspector Clare Foreman of the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit added: “The aim of the group is to encourage survivors who have been represented or supported by any services or agencies during reports of sexual abuse offences to come forward and highlight their experiences, be they positive or negative, in order for those involved to make the appropriate changes and improve service delivery for future service users.

"We are particularly interested in any reasons that survivors have withdrawn their support of an ongoing investigation and what could have done differently to encourage them to continue.”

"You can attend anonymously if you wish but will need to get in touch for us to send you some forms to read through beforehand."
