Bay's Christmas cracker of a match for Boxing Day

The Seagulls have a Christmas cracker on Boxing Day when former Bay stalwart Colin Caton brings his Bala Town team to the 4 Crosses Arena (2:30pm kick-off, weather permitting)

The Bay were narrowly beaten 2-1 in a very close game at Bala in October and will be keen to get something from Tuesday’s clash to build on the 2-0 Welsh Cup win over Barry and stay ahead of Aberystwyth and Pontypridd in the relegation positions.

The Lakesiders are fifth in the JD Cymru Premier table with a defensive record bettered only by leaders The New Saints, which shows how hard they are to beat.

But they lost at home to Cardiff Met in their last league outing and in fact have won only two of their last six league games (two draws and two defeats).

Colin Caton left the Bay in 2003 after sterling service over 12 years as player and manager and within four years of joining Bala as manager had seen them promoted to the Cymru Alliance and then the Cymru Premier, since when they have qualified for Europe on eight occasions.

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s game, Bay manager Steve Evans said: “They’re a tough, organised opposition. Bala are in the top half of the table for a reason and they have been there for a number of years.

“Colin has got them organised, they’re hard to beat and you know what they are going to be. They’re going to be physical and we’ve got to be on our game.”

“I thought we more than matched them in the first half at their place and got in some great areas, but didn’t capitalise on them.”
