Bay's cup night challenge continues against Gresford

Colwyn Bay are away to Gresford Athletic in the JD Welsh Cup tonight (Friday September 3, 7:30pm kick off), with the tie to be played at Airbus UK's Hollingsworth Group Stadium.

The Seagulls beat Gresford 3-0 in the league earlier in the season, but manager Craig Hogg says that result will have no bearing on tonight's cup game.

"Form and things like that go out of the window when it comes to cup competitions," says Craig.

"It is a nice distraction to have, whether you are doing well, poorly or indifferently in the league. Cup ties are one-off games and it will go straight to penalties if it is a draw at the end of 90 minutes so anybody can win."

The Bay reached the last 16 of the Welsh Cup during the curtailed 2019/20 season, beating Cymru Premier side Airbus UK on the way, before eventually losing to Flint Town United.

Craig added: "We had a really good run in the competition last time out. There were some great performances with some good days out for our fans as well. and hopefully we can have that again."
