With many of the senior players away on pre-arranged holiday, the Seagulls will turn to lads from the Academy for Saturday’s Welsh Blood Service All League all Wales cup final against Barry Town United at Newtown (5:30pm kick off).
It is a big opportunity for the Under-19s development squad to represent the club in a senior cup final, although it is a mammoth challenge against the JD Cymru South champions, who will be joining Colwyn Bay in the JD Cymru Premier next season.
After losing two of their first three league games of the campaign, Barry went 27 games unbeaten (24 wins and three draws) to win the JD Cymru South by a runaway 18 points from runners-up Briton Ferry Ferry Llansawel.
Their star man is captain and Welsh C international Kayne McLaggon who has scored over 30 goals in all competitions this season.
Barry-born, 32-year-old Kayne started his playing career with Southampton, and has had spells at Bristol Rovers and Merthyr Tydfil before joining his home town club in 2017.
Another experienced squad member is Curtis McDonald who has been capped by Wales at Under-17, Under-19, Under-21 and semi-pro level, having started his career with Cardiff City and, after a spell on loan at Accrington Stanley, joined Forest Green Rovers.
Steve Evans has been working with the young Bay squad this week and, whatever the result, they’ll be looking to do themselves proud.
