Conwy County Borough Council has been able to help out Conwy Food Bank by providing them with use of an industrial unit.

The Food Bank provides a vital service to many people in the county who are in crisis and find themselves unable to afford to buy food for them or their families.

Over recent weeks it has found an ever increasing demand on its services with more people facing difficulties because of the coronavirus situation.

The Food Bank has found it difficult to operate safely in its existing premises where volunteers weren’t able to keep safe distances between themselves when working stocking shelves or making up food parcels.

In another response to the extraordinary times the county faces during the Coronavirus pandemic, Conwy Council has stepped in and is providing the food bank with an industrial unit on one of its business parks which was temporarily not in use whilst awaiting new tenants.

Cllr Goronwy Edwards, Cabinet Member for Economic Development at Conwy County Borough Council said: “We were very pleased that we were able to help out the Conwy Food Bank by letting them use one of our premises for them to continue to provide such an important service.

"The Food Bank is an incredible support to many in our community, and it’s so important that they can continue to operate during the Coronavirus pandemic.”

David Lackner-Smith, Chief executive of Sanctuary Trust Charity who operate the Conwy Food Bank, said: “In the current situation we were struggling to find the space to work together due to the premises we currently work from being too small.

"The demand for parcels has risen during this time and we are expecting a large increase in this demand if current circumstances continue for even for a short length of time.”
