The Welsh Mountain Zoo – National Zoo of Wales announced earlier today that after a period of declining health, Casper the California Sea Lion has passed away.
Casper’s health deteriorated in recent weeks and sadly did not respond to treatment, despite the best efforts of the Zoo's expert vet team and their specialist colleagues. The Zoo made the difficult decision, to put him to sleep in the interest of his welfare.
“Casper the California Sea Lion was a much-loved part of the Zoo family and we are all deeply saddened to share the news of his passing” said Chris Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer of the Welsh Mountain Zoo.
Chris continued “Casper is survived by his family Spray, Sofia, Cali and Monty. We ask that you keep them and Casper’s care team in your thoughts at this difficult time. He will be greatly missed.”
