Caution urged as play areas begin to re-open in Conwy

Conwy County Borough Council has announced it will start reopening play areas and outdoor gyms from today.

More than 120 play areas and outdoor gyms will be opened during the week, after equipment safety checks. The Council has stressed that parents and carers have an important role in making sure everyone is safe.

“Because the play areas have been out of action for a while, our inspectors will be checking that all the equipment is safe before they open,” said Cllr Greg Robbins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation.

“However, as we cannot guarantee that play areas are Covid-free we are asking all parents, grandparents and carers to follow sensible precautions to keep their families safe.”

The precautions include regular hand cleaning and social distancing during play, and not eating or drinking in the play area.

There should only be one adult per family unit to keep numbers down, and only one family at a time using larger pieces of play equipment.

“If a play area is already busy, we recommend that families come back later, so they can keep a safe distance from others outside their household,” Cllr Greg Robbins adds.

The play areas down the Conwy Valley at Capel Curig and Cae’r Felin in Llanrwst will remain closed due to recent flood damage, with work planned to begin removing silt and debris this month.
