A celebration of Welsh and English choral music is set to take place in the heart of Llandudno this weekend as two acclaimed choirs come together for a special fundraising concert.

Music lovers are being invited to enjoy an afternoon packed with traditional favourites, hymns, popular songs, operatic selections and well-known classics when the North Wales Police Mixed Choir joins forces with the Greater Manchester Police Male Voice Choir at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church on Lloyd Street on Sunday at 3pm.

The concert, which has become an annual fixture at the church, promises a varied programme designed to appeal to audiences of all ages. Organisers say the performance will feature a rich mix of Welsh and English musical traditions, alongside lighter moments, with conductors and choir members adding humour and anecdotes throughout the afternoon.

The event also supports an important local cause. Half of the proceeds will go towards a major fundraising appeal for a new roof at the church, helping preserve one of Llandudno’s longstanding places of worship and community gathering spaces. Admission is £10 on the door, while children can attend free of charge.

The concert will also showcase the growing success of the North Wales Police Mixed Choir, which is approaching its second anniversary in August. Formed to bring together serving and retired officers, police staff and members of the wider community through a shared love of music, the choir has quickly built a reputation for its performances at civic events, charity concerts and community occasions across North Wales.

Meanwhile, the Greater Manchester Police Male Voice Choir brings decades of musical tradition and experience. The choir has long been recognised for supporting charitable causes and community events throughout the North West, performing a repertoire that ranges from traditional Welsh and English favourites to contemporary and popular music.

Male voice and mixed choirs remain an important part of Welsh cultural life, with their roots stretching back to the mining communities and chapels of the 19th century. Today, they continue to draw enthusiastic audiences and play a vital role in raising funds for charities and local causes while keeping a cherished musical tradition alive.

Organisers are hoping for a strong turnout from residents and visitors alike, describing the event as an ideal way to spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon while supporting both local musicians and a worthwhile community project.

The concert takes place at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 35 Lloyd Street, Llandudno, on Sunday at 3pm. Doors will open shortly before the performance.
