A North Wales bowling club has received a welcome boost after a local business stepped in to support its facilities and members.

Specsavers in Colwyn Bay has donated £1,000 to Rhos-on-Sea Bowling Club, helping fund improvements to the club’s bowling green.

The donation will allow the volunteer-run club to upgrade its playing surface, ensuring it remains in good condition for members and visitors for years to come.

The gesture also goes beyond financial support. As part of the initiative, club members are being offered hearing checks and discounts on hearing devices — helping to support their overall health and wellbeing.

Justine Williams, hearing aid dispenser at Specsavers Colwyn Bay, said the team was proud to support a club that plays such an important role in the local community.

She said the bowling club provides a welcoming and active space for people of all ages, and added that it had been encouraging to see members taking advantage of hearing checks at the store.

Rhos-on-Sea Bowling Club, which has more than 90 members, is a long-standing part of the local community. Alongside regular bowling, it hosts social events including quiz nights and community gatherings, helping to tackle isolation and bring people together.

Club secretary Peter Abrahams described the donation as a “real boost” for the organisation, highlighting the importance of support for volunteer-led groups.

He said contributions like this are invaluable in helping the club maintain and improve its facilities, adding that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting the local community.

Across North Wales, community sports clubs like Rhos-on-Sea Bowling Club play a key role in promoting active lifestyles and social connection — particularly for older residents. Support from local businesses can help ensure they continue to thrive.

Specsavers Hearcare Colwyn Bay is open seven days a week, offering eye and hearing care services to the local community.
