Colwyn Bay beaten by goal deep into added time

After twice coming from behind to equalise, the Seagulls conceded a third goal in the fifth minute of added time to lose 2-3 at home to bottom of the table Pontypridd United.

It was another disappointing result and six consecutive league defeats has left the Bay with a lot to do in the second phase of the season.

With loan signings Harry Owen, Owen Cushion and Dan Davies all making their debuts, the Bay started well with visiting keeper George Ratcliffe tipping an Alex Downes header over the bar and Cai Owen shooting narrowly wide, but Pontypridd were in front inside 15 minutes with Clayton Green scoring from a rebound off the crossbar.

Nobody could get on the end of a Tom McCready free kick into the area and Macca fired a shot over the bar after a good move, before Harry Owen equalised with a debut goal following a long throw 10 minutes into the second half.

The Bay were level for only nine minutes, however, before Luke Cummings restored Pontypridd’s lead from a quick break.

Tom McCready fired a free kick narrowly wide and Matty Hill shot over the bar from McCready’s pass as the Bay strove for another equaliser.

They looked to have rescued a point in added time when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Alex Downes and Udi Akopen scored from the spot to make it 2-2, but Pontypridd immediately broke through again for Ethan Vaughan to fire home their winner with almost the last kick of the game and give their hopes of escaping relegation a massive boost.
