A man from Colwyn Bay has been jailed for three years after being convicted of coercive and controlling behaviour towards a victim.
George Kyle Daniels, aged 27, of St David’s Road, Colwyn Bay, was sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court after previously pleading guilty to the offence.
Daniels was arrested on Monday, April 27, following an investigation by detectives from North Wales Police into a series of incidents.
Officers found that Daniels subjected his victim to a sustained pattern of controlling behaviour, including preventing them from leaving the house or speaking to others.
The investigation also found that he controlled aspects of the victim’s daily life, including what they wore, who they could see, and whether they could spend time with family and friends.
Daniels was also found to have financially abused the victim, restricted their eating and controlled when they could shower independently.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Rae Ellis from North Wales Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit said the outcome reflected the courage of the victim in coming forward.
“I welcome the sentence passed by the court, and commend the courage and bravery displayed by the victim in this case,” she said.
“Her resilience and strength throughout the process played a major part in the outcome and I hope that she can now move forward in her life.
“North Wales Police are committed to pursuing the most violent and dangerous of offenders against women and girls.
“I would encourage anyone who is subject to such abuse to contact us. You will be believed, and your information treated in the utmost confidence.”
North Wales Police said coercive and controlling behaviour is a form of domestic abuse and can involve patterns of intimidation, isolation, threats and control over a person's everyday life.
The force is encouraging anyone experiencing abuse or concerned about someone else to seek support and report their concerns.
