Colwyn Bay runners’ epic Happy Faces charity challenge

September 26, 2022 - 1031 views

The local community has joined Clwyd West MS Darren Millar to applaud two Colwyn Bay runners who are completing a colossal challenge for charity.

Gaz Rowlands and Sam Renshaw are currently running from Rhos-on-Sea to London in aid of Happy Faces Children’s Charity.

They set off last Thursday and are running a marathon every day, 26 miles average.

On Sunday, October 2nd, they will finish their challenge by running in the London marathon. They are accompanied by Nigel Watkinson and Ray Herbert from Happy Faces in the support vehicle.

The event has been sponsored by local businesses, the main one being Coast Café Bar and Gift Shop in Rhos-on-Sea.

Gaz and Sam are hoping to raise £20,000 so that Happy faces can buy a mini-bus for a school in North Wales.

Darren said: “The challenge that Gaz and Sam have set themselves is quite remarkable. For most, completing one marathon would be an achievement in itself, but they are completing one every day from last Thursday until this Friday. They will take Saturday as a rest day, before taking part in the final part of their challenge, the London Marathon, on Sunday.

“I know local businesses have already been generous in supporting them, but to those businesses and people who haven’t already sponsored them, I urge you to do it now.

“This is for a fantastic cause. Happy Faces Children’s Charity support sick, disabled and disadvantaged children across North Wales.

“Since 2003 they have raised over £1 million and provided 12 specially adapted school mini-buses, day trips for over 5000 children and specialist

“If Gaz and Same hit their target, it will enable Happy Faces to purchase another mini-bus.”
