Colwyn Bay to celebrate Diwali festival this weekend

Colwyn Bay is getting set to celebrate its second 'Diwali' festival this Saturday at various locations in the town.

Organised by the very well respected Dr. Sibani Roy and the North Wales Association for Cultural Integration, the event aims to mark the Hindu festival of lights, which is celebrated every autumn in the northern hemisphere.

One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolises the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance."

Although Diwali originated in Northern Hemisphere, it is now being celebrated throughout India and every country in the world where there are large number of Indians are settled.This festival particularly attracts people interested in religious studies, philosophy and the social structure of India.

The event supported by Bay of Colwyn Town Council will be held in a number of locations across the town and there is a warm welcome for everyone join in the celebrations and find out more about the significance of the festival.

On Saturday festivities will begin at the centre from 3.30pm with Woteva, a ukuele collective to start off proceedings. At 4pm the Colwyn Writer's Circle will present words and music with light in mind.

At 5pm outside the Bay View Shopping Centre drummers extraordinaire 'Bloco Swn' will provide unique rhythms before making their way back to Greenfield Road where Indian refreshments will be available.
