Santander is closing its Colwyn Bay branch, but they will introduce a Community Banking service at Colwyn Bay Library from July 25th.
Clwyd West MS and Welsh Conservative Leader Darren Millar praised this decision after urging the bank to provide banking support to the local community.
In April, the banking giant announced plans to shut 95 branches across the UK, as well as cutting hours at 36 sites.
Among those to close are the branches in Colwyn Bay, Caernarfon, and Holyhead.
Following news of the closure, Mr. Millar met with the company and urged them to consider providing a community banking facility, suggesting the town library as the ideal location.
He said: “Like many, I was very concerned to learn that Santander would be closing its Colwyn Bay branch and called for a meeting with the bank.
“During that meeting, I urged them to look at replacing the branch with a community service and suggested they considered the town’s library as a location. I am therefore extremely pleased that they listened and have now acted on my suggestion.
“Their Community Banker will be available on Fridays between 9:30 and 17:00 from Friday 25th July at Colwyn Bay Library, which is situated on Woodland Road West.
“Customers will still be able to continue to visit any of their other branches, and use Mobile, Online and Telephone Banking to manage their money at any time. They can also use their current or savings account card to manage their account at an ATM or a Post Office or attend local Banking Hubs.
“They will be updating their customers who used the branch regularly to tell them about the Community Banker service.
“Whilst I am never pleased to see banks closing in our towns, I wish to thank Santander for listening to the concerns raised and acting on calls for a community service.”
