The formal consultations on proposals to close Ysgol Betws y Coed and Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan start today.
Conwy County Borough Council’s Education Service is asking people to submit their views on the proposals to close these schools.
Cllr Aaron Wynne, Cabinet Member for Education said, “These two consultations are a necessary step to ensure that the views of each school community are sought. I urge learners, parents, governors and other interested parties to get involved.”
The information and online response forms are available on the Conwy website at:
Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan: www.conwy.gov.uk/YsgolYIConsultation
Ysgol Betws y Coed: www.conwy.gov.uk/YsgolBYCConsultation
If you’re not online you can get a paper copy from Coed Pella reception, Llanrwst Library or phone 01492 575595.
The consultations will run for 6 weeks, please submit your views by 09/01/26.
Councillors will receive a report summarising the responses received in March 2026.
Both Ysgol Ysbyty Ifan and Ysgol Betws y Coed are designated as rural schools under the Welsh Government’s School Organisation Code, and any proposal for closure must follow specific procedures.
These include a presumption against closure and a requirement for Conwy County Borough Council to demonstrate strong justification, having conscientiously considered all viable alternatives.
