Contractor chosen for Bay's Children's Assessment Centre

Conwy’s Cabinet Members have chosen a preferred contractor for the construction of the children’s assessment centre in Colwyn Bay.

Earlier this month, Councillors looked at the tenders submitted by the shortlisted contractors, and voted on who should be awarded the contract.

Once the legal processes have been completed, the contract will be awarded and the successful contractor will be announced. It is expected that this should take place towards the end of March.

The project followed a capital bid made by Conwy County Borough Council, in partnership with Denbighshire Council and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, to the Welsh Government.

The bid was successful enabling the children's assesment centre to be fully funded by the Welsh Government Integrated Care Find.

The centre will be for Social Care and Health professionals to work together in one location to assess the needs of the children and their families and carers.

It isn’t intended to be a permanent home for children, but it will be a place where children can be safely cared for, supported and supervised by a residential team, and where children and their parents / carers can meet an on-site therapeutic team.

The facility will support families to address difficulties they are facing and build the resilience of the family unit, so they no longer require Social Care services

Planning Approval was granted to the project late last year before land appropriation and the use of the old Meadow Lodge on Abergele Road was agreed in Februrary.
