Conwy County misses out on the chance to be UK City of Culture

Conwy County has lost out on the bid to become the UK's City of Culture in 2025.

Despite strong backing from local people, council officials and businesses including the Penderyn Distillery, the bid was unsuccessful at making it to the next stage of the selection process.

The City of Culture title was extended to include towns and counties this year as a special honour to mark the Queen's Jubillee year.

Following a record number of bids which topped 20, only 8 made it through to the next round. This includes Wrexham which will represent Wales in its aim to land the prestigous accolade.

Cornwall, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Bradford, County Durham, Derby, Southampton, Stirling and Wrexham County Borough were the areas successful in this round. Soon this shortlist will be whittled down further before the eventual winner is selected in spring of next year.

Conwy's bid aimed unite community leaders, creatives, community arts organisations, local business, transport, and, crucially, local residents through local culture.
