To prepare for the busy spring and summer period, Conwy County Borough Council are making it even easier for people to get rid of their litter responsibly.

There are about 1200 public bins across Conwy county, with the council upgrading 170 bins to larger 360 litre volume bird-proof bins, and 50 extra temporary bins ready to put out at hotspot locations.

In total, these bins provide an extra 34,400 litres capacity for litter, about the size of 200 bath tubs.

As well as installing bigger bins, the Council is also increasing staff for litter picking, bin emptying and removing flytipping. The Council has hired 5 more litter pickers to work at hotspots including Rhos-on-Sea, West Shore, Conwy Quay, Abergele, Pensarn, Towyn and Kinmel Bay, extra to the usual staff working at Colwyn Bay and Llandudno.

More staff are being allocated to Betws Y Coed, Llanrwst and Capel Curig and two extra members of staff will be dedicated to the Great Orme Country Park, working 7 days a week.

Staff will be working from 7am to 8pm every day of the week to empty bins and pick up litter along the coast from Kinmel Bay to Llanfairfechan.

To support this work, the Council has added another refuse truck and a cage vehicle, each with a two person crew, to allow them to empty bins more frequently and clear fly tipping.

A Council spokesperson said: “We all have our part to play in keeping Conwy beautiful. When you’re out and about, please remember to find a litter bin or take your rubbish home with you. If a litter bin is full and waiting to be emptied, please use another bin nearby.”
