Locals in Colwyn Bay have been left dismayed by the state of the beach alongside Porth Eirias following days of hot sunshine.

After families and indviduals were permitted to visit the golden sands alongside the Promenade, many took to social media to complain at the state of the beach following the easing of lockdown rules.

Jill Thomas from Old Colwyn who visited with her son Evan on Thursday explained that broken bottles and debris on the beach was making family visits dangerous.

"There was so many broken bottles and rubbish that young children would have easily cut themselves badly should they have run across the beach. It really wasn't acceptable to leave the beach in that condition.

"You would think that everyone might want to look out for each other, especially as our community has had sich a difficult time recently."

After a high number of reports, Conwy County Council workers took to the beach to clear the bottles and filter the sand to try and get rid of the glass.

Cllr Greg Robbins, Conwy Cabinet Member, said: “We’ve had staff out early in the morning cleaning up Colwyn Bay Beach. Our crews have had to spend extra time today cleaning up appalling mess. Behaviour like this is unacceptable and spoils our beautiful beach for everyone.”
