North Wales Crusaders head coach Anthony Murray is looking forward to seeing his side in action for the first time in 2022 as they take on Leigh Miners Rangers in the Challenge Cup this weekend.

With Crusaders’ pre-season friendly at Barrow Raiders postponed last weekend, it’ll be their first outing since the 2021 play-offs.

Community club Leigh, who knocked out Milford in the first round of the Challenge Cup, will host North Wales at Twist Lane.

Murray said: “We’re treating this like we’re playing a semi-professional team. Leigh have had a lot of success over the years and produced many good players in their systems.

“A lot of our players were playing in the community game not so long ago and I’ve also been involved so we know the kind of challenge facing us. They’ll be really enthusiastic and looking to put in a good performance in front of what will be a decent crowd.

“It was a shame not to play Barrow last weekend, but we can turn it into a positive. I know all the lads are chomping at the bit to get back playing and we’ve brought in quite a few new players.

“We’ve lost a bit of experience, but the new lads have fitted in really well and the hope is we will build on what we achieved last season.”
