The stage curtain was raised for the very first Venue Cymru performance of 2021 as a full house enjoyed a memorable performance from cruise ship superstar Jane McDonald.

The eagerly anticipated show was the first of many planned for the theatre since it re-opened at the start of September.

The auditorium had been empty since the Covid-19 restrictions and the setting up of the Ysbty'r Enfys emergency hospital and vaccination centre on the site.

Bayside Radio's Phillydog was in the audience to enjoy the special performance and he praised the work of the Venue Cymru staff and production teams.

"This was great entertainment featuring an excellent band complete with three brilliant backing singers - all talented ladies. Congratulations to everyone at Venue Cymru for the way they managed a full house...well done!

"Jane had written some wonderful songs, and was joined by percussionist Jim Pitchforth on vocals for two numbers.

"We had tears, thoughtful tunes, a Chic medley, Queen and Freddie Mercury covers, lots of guilty pleasures and Jane’s cheeky chat!

"When the band presented her with flowers from her company, she stood and cried, thanking fans for all their words of support since her husband Ed died in April this year.

"What a wonderful evening to mark the re-opening of the theatre!"
