Dedicated North Wales team supports rural crime victims

North Wales Police’s Rural Crime Team is taking part in National Rural Crime Action Week this week to support victims of rural crime.

Being a victim of crime can be difficult for anyone, but for those living in rural areas, the challenges can feel even greater. Isolation, poor phone signal, limited access to services, and close-knit communities where news travels fast can leave victims feeling vulnerable, embarrassed, or even reluctant to report crime.

Throughout the year, the team can be found at county and village shows, livestock markets, and community events.

But policing alone cannot solve rural crime. The team works closely with partners including NFU Cymru, FUW, the DPJ Foundation, and Tir Dewi to support farmers and their families, particularly with mental health and wellbeing.

They also partner with the RSPCA on issues such as badger baiting and with Natural Resources Wales on tackling habitat destruction because sometimes, the victims of crime are wildlife and the environment themselves.

PC Dave Allen from the Rural Crime Team said: “When North Wales Police launched the UK’s first dedicated Rural Crime Team in 2013, it was to ensure rural victims had a team that truly understood their needs. Since then, we’ve grown to provide seven-day cover across North Wales, working side by side with our communities.

”While not every action we take is shared on social media, people can be assured that we are here, visible and active, every day.”

The Rural Crime Team will continue to build on its partnerships, listening to the concerns of rural residents and tackling the crimes that affect them most, ensuring that North Wales’s rural communities remain safe, supported, and connected.
