Digital artist sought for dementia reminiscence project in Bay

February 16, 2020 - 1240 views

It has been recently identified that the number of people living with dementia in the Bay of Colwyn area is almost double the Welsh average. As a result Conwy Culture Centre has initiated a project to provide 'reminiscence' collections for individuals or groups to loan.

These collections are themed and linked to particular subjects and eras. Currently the collections cover through to the 1950’s.

People living with dementia and people working alongside them have highlighted that a lot of provision is geared towards older generation aged 75 +. So the Imagine Colwyn Bay arts and heritage project has identified a need for collections that meet the needs of younger people also recognising the fact that reminiscence is enjoyable and healthy for all ages.

The project is reaching out to contract a Digital Artist to work collaboratively as part of a small team to co-produce reminiscence collections themed according to the 60s, 70s and 80s.

The role will be split into 2 elements: Digital Artist Residency – delivering sessions in a healthcare or community setting and supporting and enhancing reminiscence experiences for people living with dementia.

Interested parties and applicants must be able to deliver sessions between March to October 2020 and have experience of facilitating workshops within community and healthcare settings. Experience of working with older people and people living with dementia is also an important requirement.

To find out more about the commission and other requirements, please contact Helen Jackson by March 2nd. Telephone 01492 574253 or email helen.jackson5@conwy.gov.uk
