E-scooter seized in the Bay after Police warning ignored

June 15, 2021 - 1052 views

North Wales Police has issued a warning to people who may be considering or already using e-scooters on the pathways and roads around the area.

"Whilst out and about in Colwyn Bay earlier, we spotted a male riding an e-scooter on the prom, which of course isn't allowed here in North Wales.

"A warning was issued but not long after this warning was given, he was stopped by West Conwy Coastal officers, so his e-scooter was subsequently seized.

"E-scooters have increased in popularity over recent years but they are currently only legal to ride on private land with the landowner’s permission, or as part of a Government trial. North Wales, at present, is not part of these trials.

"We understand that buying an e-scooter can be tempting, especially as you can buy them from many popular retailers. However, the current law is clear. You can buy one but you can’t ride it on a public road, cycle lane or pavement. E-scooters can only be used on private land with the permission of the landowner."
